Before I ever started to hear about the many horrible consequences of pornography (beyond the basics: low self esteem, unrealistic expectations etc), I've read a lot of posts online, always written by men, arguing that erotic literature was "porn for women": not only to say that women generally preferred it, but rather that it had "the same negative side effects on women than pornography has on men".
These men often lamented about the fact that it gave women "unrealistic expectations" in matters of sex and romance, and they were angry that regular use of pornography was socially looked down upon whereas it was "okay" for women to read erotica in public, like a bus or a train. At some point, I even read a post where men would share popular titles and author in that genre just to be able to spot women reading them in public so they could shame them publicly like somebody would do to a man if he were to be caught watching porn in public.
I had almost forgotten about all that stuff, but it suddenly came back to me after hearing and reading about the general view of FDS on pornography. So now, I'm curious: what are your stance on erotic literature? Have you ever read any? And do you think it can have the same effect as porn in video format?

What a ridiculous comparison. For starters, the authors are not trafficked.
If erotic literature included women being abused, degraded, choked and not pleased like they are in porn then it’s definitely against FDS standards. If the novels include no abuse, a high value relationship with romance that’s fulfilling to a woman then hell yes! I don’t read erotic literature so I have no idea about those books to be honest. I have always used my imagination which is always vanilla but it works for me lol
i used to read erotica when i was much younger and i have to say, it was a lot more arousing compared to porn. well-written erotica awakened my imagination and added to the mental imagery. when i say well-written, of course, i mean an incredible grasp of prose and sentence structure.
on the other hand, badly-written erotica filled with crude descriptions of genitalia and sexual acts also exist and those i discovered were typically written by men who would rather "cut to the chase". so, of course men would scoff at erotica and claim it created unrealistic expectations because they can never write it well and they were intimidated by women who could.
ever browsed through the menwritingwomen sub? imagine that on an erotica level.
I'm going to set aside the exceptions and just focus on the average erotica here, and despite BDSM fantasies making the news a lot recently the majority of erotica is still "vanilla."
Most erotica features the woman being cared for and seduced. The male lead protects her physically and emotionally. A lot of plot lines begin/revolve around him being Prince Charming to her Cinderella/Rapunzel (which does have issues too, but it's fantasy). He goes out of his way to buy gifts and make her feel nice. Not only that but he makes sure the female lead is turned on, and has many orgasms, frequently before any penetration happens. And there's consent. They don't just stop at "no," they stop at tears, hesitation, fear, a less than 100% enthusiastic "YES."
And this is the crap pornsick coomers want you to believe is so unrealistic that it makes women sick the same way their "painal" fetish and death grip syndrome makes them sick.
Men will call women having any sort of standards "unreasonable"
FFS
Yet expect women to be airbrushed, depilated, curvy (but also slim), meek, compliant (but also strong and independent) and somehow able to orgasm from jackhammering.
I don't know how erotica can be compared to porn. In erotica, women are treated like special human beings who's feelings and wants matter. The dream of most women is to have a man that goes out of his way to prove that he cares for her body and soul. Porn is about objectifying, harming, and demeaning women. It's violent and makes women seem less human. We used to check out romance novels and read them aloud on our high school volleyball trips. It was hilarious to read them aloud on the bus. Cringy and corny--just for fun. What porn could you show on a bus that would be considered funny or silly? Women know that romance novels are FICTION. We're not like men who demand women reenact porn scenarios in the bedroom, because we know the difference between fiction and reality. Even men calling erotica a problem en par with porn shows you how they have no clue and cannot differentiate truth from fiction.
