Barbie, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Derry Girls, etc. I feel like the men outshine the women and it’s done on purpose.
We need more movies that have likeable characters and DON’T uplift men. There is literally no need for it.
Men and pick me’s think it’s good enough to have female centered media without anymore effort than that and it’s infuriating. I’m so done.
It's difficult because even if the men weren't obviously written to be the 'favourites', so many fans will still claim they're the best characters just because they're male. I remember when the 2016 Ghostbusters film came out, everyone was saying Chris Hemsworth was the best thing about it. The film has four hugely successful female leads, and he was just a side character, yet so many people only wanted to focus praise on him. Compare that to the way most female characters in male-focused films and TV are received - yikes.
