Please anyone, what are your thoughts on this article? I carry pepper spray and other protective items. Are we really in danger for just trying to protect ourselves?

In the U.K. pepper spray or any weapon is not allowed. If you are caught with pepper spray or import it you will face arrest and a subsequent criminal record. The only thing we have for self defence is a rape whistle so us women in the UK are screwed.
@Vanessa E I hate to ask, but are the whistles effective?

I mean it might help a little to help get attention from other people to help you out but any man could just rip a whistle out of your hand and assault you. You really have nothing to hurt him so you can make a run for it. The whistle might scare him as he probably doesn’t want attention drawn to him but that’s about it. And what if there is no one around to even hear the whistle? So it might help a little bit but not that much but its certainly better than nothing. Probably learning self defence techniques would be the best bet for women who can’t carry pepper spray, I should really take some classes.
It’s ridiculous that the expectation is to just wait for the police when they’ve shown time and time again they are not obligated to protect us in any way
They are selling personal alarms that emit a loud sound that can attract people. Also home items like hair spray , insect spray, maybe make your own pepper spray using an empty spray bottle. Things i searched in google
It depends on where you are. Find out what’s legal in the country/state you live in. If you choose to buy a gun, make sure to obtain one legally and take firearm safety training (many women end up injuring themselves or bystanders, because they think owning a gun is enough, and don’t bother getting educated on how to handle one safely). Even if you live somewhere pepper spray is illegal, you may be able to get disguised weapons, like the cat ear key chain device (looks like a cat-shaped key fob, but has sharp prongs on it). These are great for plausible deniability, because it’s just a keychain, and you were defending yourself with what you had.

@Vanessa E That is my concern if no one is around to hear the whistle. Yes, I'm thinking about taking self-defense classes also.
