I matched with a man yesterday on OLD (yes, I still check my OLD account every few weeks) who sent me a respectful, well-intentioned, grammatically correct message.
However, he used exclamation marks to end 2/3 of his sentences.
These exclamation marks were unnecessary and irritated me. A grown man does not need to message that way.
Before FDS, I would have told myself to get over it and message him back. After all, what harm can a few extra exclamation points do?
Now, I know to "follow my gut" always, so I blocked him.
This is such a trivial anecdote, but I think it's a reminder for us all to block and delete at the first sign of "I don't like something" or "something isn't quite right", even if you can't verbalize the reason.

Totally not trivial. Your whole being is picking up on something that seems "off" and you're honoring that. Women are so so sooo brainwashed to ignore our instincts (for the benefit of men, patriarchy) so that they can continue to get easy access to us... It's a true act of courage, I think, to just trust yourself. Plus, it's centuries of evolutionary biology at play. It's what keeps up us alive and healthy and it is there for a reason.
Also, yeah... why so many exclamation points? A little too excited to con you, probably. LOL. Even in little things like this, though, they can give themselves away. We just need to be extremely observant and tap into what our bodies and brains are telling us (not our emotions).
Burned Haystack. As someone who took forensic linguistics too, I'd say the exclamation marks are because he wants to dominate every conversation by being the loudest. It's subliminal.
Always trust your instinct ❤️
