So I'm in this stupid safety meeting at my job today and the topic of self defense comes up. The lady hosting the meeting assures us we're allowed to defend ourselves form physical harm if need be. I brought up pepper spray (which I do carry at work) and she said it's not allowed.
Im like "so if a man comes in and targets one of the females we'll get fired if we use pepper spray? We're supposed to just square up? 😐"
The entire room gets quiet and Lady's jaw drops to the floor. Then she says she's "not sure" if we'll get fired, though termination isn't likely to be a punishment, but pepper spray or other self defense devices (and obviously guns) aren't allowed.
Then the men start laughing like I've said something stupid and the delulu women start miming punches like a single one of them could actually fight a man and not get laid out. The rest are looking at me crazy and acting like I should be embarrassed for even brining it up.
Kinda patting myself on the back for calling out the issue and not letting anyone there gaslight me about it, but it was still really depressing to deal with in the moment.
How it's like "Yeah the threat of male violence is going to shape so much of how you live your life, but shut up about it and no pepper spray also." Kinda makes me want to cry.
Hot take: women should be allowed to carry weapons for self-defence, like knives or pepper spray. Most men would be far more careful knowing that they could actually find out by fucking around. They are so violent against us otherwise because they KNOW that our attempts at throwing punches or kicking are like a tickle at worst. In my country often the victim that defends themselves against e.g rape gets far a bigger sentence than the perpetrator, and it makes me so angry everytime. There should be no punishment for self-defence, instead it should be encouraged.
The message is clear. Youre allowed to defend yourself, but only if youre a male. Women need to submit to male violence. And our consolation prize is a few "you go girl"s and "girls are just as strong as men" lies from the patriarchy.
As an RN, we are NOT allowed to defend ourselves. We must do all we can to "deescalate" the situation. If the patient hurts us we will have to write an incident report where we will be forced to explain how we could have better handled the situation.
Nowhere near as serious as self-defense, but at the gym the other day we were put into 2 teams to 'compete'. The other team had a man in it. Everyone else was a woman. Guess which team killed it? I came very close to saying, 'that team should have a handicap', but instead I made a small joke about it because I didn't want to be a wet blanket at the gym. But I thought about it afterwards and realised how utterly absurd (and cruel) it is to ignore the momumental differences between women's and men's strength.
I'm English, and no offensive weapons are allowed by law. (This is better than giving men access to weaponry). When an old flatmate was being stalked I got her self-defense spray, which releases a dye to stain people so they can be identified later. I told her to go for the eyes. Can't see, can't attack.
Happily she never had to use it. But keep an eye out for any painful sounding spray can
Yeah it's almost like men know how f'd men are
Stay in female groups. This happens with a LOT of animals. The main pod is females and offspring, because they just simply run off adult males - and they should. Humans have it kind of backwards.
I'm always armed with at least a knife, and I'm almost 6' tall. I was in close quarters combat classes and was always made to be the attacker in class because I'm very big and strong. None of the other girls ever managed to get away from me. I could literally grab them, pick them up, and they couldn't do a damned thing about it. And I'm about the strength of an average man. There are men who are WAY stronger than me. It's criminal to not allow women to have weapons when men's bodies are their weapons.
Women should be allowed to own and possess guns. Men (outside law enforcement or active military) should never be allowed to own or possess guns.
The end.

This is the best description of clownville I've seen all week. Thanks for the imagery! 🤣
