Okay I know this is a dumb question, but is it worth the money? I've seen it advertised, but I know damn well companies will paint their products in the best light possible. If it works, I'd have the option to go swimming which does not involve me shoving a wad of cotton up my hoo-ha, plus I'd have the added bonus of saving money on sanitary products due to the prices of stuff going up (as if they weren't taxed as shit to begin with) I'd rather have that money go towards my savings. Alternatively, if it is worth the investment are there some cheaper lesser-known brands (or hell should I just make some myself?).

I like Knixteen, which is the teen-targeting sister site for Knix. Much cheaper than Thinx, but I wait until they are on sale, like Black Friday for big discounts. They also have referral discounts.
I like the sleepover shorts, absorbent and comfy, but ugly (do not wear under thin pants). The super absorbancy cotton modal bikini is good too. The leakproof underwear is only effective for spotting, but smooth under clothes and more comfortable than using pantyliners.
I got period leggings and a bodysuit on sale from Dear Kate that work well too, and I imagine the panties are good too (but they are pricey). They give you 20% off your first order.
Period panties can save you money in the long run.
You may even be able to use money from an HSA/ FSA to buy period underwear.
I love my period panties! especially for sleeping. I have sensitive skin so pads are uncomfortable but I use them during the day because they’re easier to change (or i’d use a tampon and i’m thinking of trying the cup). But yes in my opinion the period panties are 100% worth the investment.
All I use is period panties! More eco friendly and I don’t have to worry about taking out a tampon or the ergo dynamics of wearing a pad. I do also like menstrual cups but since I’ve been celibate I’ve had trouble wearing them. Plus some days my vagina is ok with them and next she’s like NOPE.
Have you tried menstrual cups? Those seem like they would work better for swimming, because there's a seal keeping things contained. (Wouldn't period underwear either absorb the water when you swim, or leak? Or both?)
At least there would be a seal if you get the cup in there properly. I never fully got the hang of the Diva Cup myself (it's just sitting in my bathroom cabinet now, mocking me). Maybe it would be easier for someone who is already used to tampons. I've never used tampons, so I'm at a disadvantage when it comes to experience with shoving stuff up my vagina.
I really love my thinx sleep shorts to sleep I and using a diva cup during the day. I save a ton of money and feel way better, especially at night.
Just an FYI everyone - Thinx is having a sale for 25 to 50% off right now. It lasts another 6 hours. I just ordered four pairs of the boy shorts styles because those are the only undies I like during my period, but I figure trying a couple sizes is going to help me trial them out. They have a 60 day no questions asked return policy. I say give it a shot if you can.
I actually really love period underwear and reusable pads. It’s eased a lot of my discomfort/cramps and it’s nice not having to run to the store for new products every month.
I’ve wanted to try period underwear for years and literally have 4 affordable pairs I ordered off Amazon coming in today. 4 pairs for like $24 total and the brand has exceptional reviews. Up til now I switched to reusable pads maybe 3 years ago, all of which (10 pairs) came up to $140. So I’ll happily update my experience with these period underwear.
The ones i got (Uniqlo off-brand) don’t hold very much. Which is fine, since i only use them for diva cup backup. Keep in mind you do have to wash them right away (or soak in vinegar before washing), or they’ll continue to smell even after washing. I find them a little annoying to wear on a hot day, since they absorb sweat, and don’t ever dry. So i feel like I’m walking around in a diaper. A more expensive brand might be better, though.
100% would recommend period pants and reusable pads!! They're amazing. I used to wear disposable pads but there was usually some leakage and wearing them just felt gross. Always found tampons really uncomfortable/unhygienic too. Period pants sort of wick the blood into the material rather than just letting it sit next to your skin which feels a lot more comfortable and hygienic. I've also never had leakage with them and only change them once/twice per day because they hold a lot more. Also I think I might have been allergic to some of the plastics/chemicals in disposable pads because since changing to period pants my cramps have got a lot better. I actually don't dread my period anymore and it's great! I also love that they're eco-friendly and reusable/recyclable. I really hated having to waste that much plastic that literally just sits in landfill
Absolutely. I love my Thinx so much it's all I wear. Thongs and bikini. You wouldn't believe how they absorb leakage, but also absorb sweat if exercising or moisture from ovulation.
This is what the underwear I have coming in today are called, sold by the brand name Bambody on Amazon: Bambody Absorbent Boy Short: Period Protection Underwear
they sound stupid to me
