might seem tangential at first glance, but "Why does he do that" by Lundy Bancroft helped explain my father's behavior- which had an effect of healing. It helped me understand that it was his problem and not somehow my own fault/shortcomings. I have a much easier communication with my dad now as a result.
By extension, any resource that talks about the male nature and psychology (truly without sugarcoating) will have this effect.
Thirding Lundy Bancroft's book, one of my favorites. I wish it was required reading in middle/high school. I would also recommend "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" by Lindsay C. Gibson.
OP, glad to hear you're looking for a new therapist. These books helped me a lot but in my experience, nothing helped me recover like a good trauma therapist - and I encourage women to find specialists for whatever they're struggling with. Therapy is an incredibly broad field and I found most therapists (besides being incompetent) had no idea how to help me because trauma was completely outside their area of expertise. Once I found a trauma specialist, my life did a huge 180 in just 2 or 3 years of weekly sessions and I was finally able to heal a lot of childhood wounds.
