It's performative. Her brand ambassador contract with Balenciaga already ended, Kim K's hasn't. Which is why Kim K's statement said she was reevaluating rather than "cutting ties."

Maybe I’m cynical. But I believe of the celebrities cutting ties with this brand don’t have an issue with it. I think they know the public opinion is very negative with the brand now and I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few months to a year all the celebrities boycotting Balenciaga will be wearing their clothing and posting it on social media again.
