Woow I had no idea about most of this, so interesting. I knew the stereotype of frat parties of course, but didn't know sororities we're BANNED from hosting parties, so as to funnel them into frat houses and parties. The outdated restrictions placed on sororities seems so insidious and calculating. Literally teaching college aged men to be predatory, and artificially restricting women's options in networking and dating.
I just finished this episode and I absolutely loved it. Definitely running out to buy her book asap!
One part of the episode that stuck out to me though was when Jana said she doesn't have a problem with hookup culture, I wish someone would have asked her to elaborate on that. You'd think someone in her position would hate it more than anybody!
I recently joined a facebook womens' only group in my local city, and for real, the sorority PickMe mindset is very real. I had no idea the sororities had to depend on the fraternities and that is disgusting in every way as described on the podcast. Many women in this group come from the local university and they are all the same - thin blondes/heavy makeup/very white. They will often date the same JustAnotherTallWhiteGuy and often will move into his apt/condo/house with him within 5 years of college graduation. ("I am subletting cuz I am moving in with my guy" posts are super often) They will also do a lot of PickMe shit such as staying up late just to get his favorite concert tickets which are on limited sale, going to various sporting events, getting him clothing/shoes (who wants to bet the guys never gift shit back for the women?) and also doing a lot of traditional feminine dress-up and make-up. Now, I'm not saying never get gifts for your guy, but we know moving in without commitment often turns out to be a BangMaid kind of shit-sandwich deal which I bet my whole ass paycheck that most of these women are in this kind of deal. I bet no one in the group has really been aware of why and how they come to be and act. There is nothing wrong with makeup or being thin or having a long wavy hairstyle, but it's very clear these sororities brainwash these women, unconsciously and the sorority system has silent, negative consequences for women well after college. I have also known women in real life that said that they got bullied for not "fitting-in" with the group - they are NOT your sisters, they will throw you under the bus for JuStSoMeGuY.Ladies who are college bound, please don't ever get involved with a sorority system. It is never worth it. There are plenty of other clubs and groups that will match your interests. Focus on your studies so you can get a career and financial success without a man.

Glad I never went Greek. Total PickMe hell for sure. Sorority sisters only ever seemed limited by the structure.

Top notch ep ladies!
Went to one of the universities in my country with the biggest Greek life. Didn’t join. Can’t wait to listen to this.
